Sleep may well be the most important thing we do. Countless studies on sleep report the risks and even dangers associated with lack of sleep, yet in our fast-paced highly driven world, sleep is often the first thing we sacrifice with hardly a second thought. Even if we do ensure that sleep is a priority, our modern day screen-filled existence interferes with our body’s body clock, it’s not surprising that sleep disorders are on the rise globally.

Sleep affects your health in more ways than you might realise. Our bodies undergo vital processes when we sleep.

  • Cellular growth and repair
  • Hormone regulation which influences blood sugar and immune system functioning
  • Improves brain and cognitive functioning including memory

Adequate sleep is required for productivity and performance. It’s critical in ensuring resilience and stress responses, which also plays an important role in the overall aging process and life expectancy.

Common symptoms of not getting enough sleep include:

  • Extreme daytime drowsiness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Problems focusing or paying attention
  • Difficulty learning
  • Forgetfulness
  • Fatigue
  • Moodiness or irritability
  • Loss of libido

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, and your overall sleep quality seems to be deteriorating, it could be time to reach out for assistance and support.

Your healthcare provider is always the recommended first step. Sleep conditions, such as sleep apnea, are not to be taken lightly. Depending on the diagnosis and recommendations, you may need to make some behavioural, environmental and lifestyle changes so that the quality of your sleep improves.

What is often missing from this prescription is an overall assessment of the important areas that affect sleep. Often healthcare practitioners make the leap from a few basic sleep strategies straight into the realm of strong prescription medications that can often cause more harm than good.

We are uniquely trained to help you uncover the obstacles preventing you from getting a good night’s sleep. In doing so we help you develop a greater awareness of these triggers so that you can work towards different solutions proactively.

We could easily provide you with a list of things to do to improve your sleep, but as you may already be well aware, knowing is one thing, applying it and integrating it, making it part of your lifestyle is something completely different.

And therein lies the challenge.

Enlisting the services of a health or wellness coach may be the best way forward to ensure you’re getting objective, compassionate and non-judgemental support to help you make the changes stick.

Every client is unique and therefore we will need to fully tailor the coaching (and complementary therapies) to work with who you are and the lifestyle you are currently living. The first step is to arrange a complimentary wellness assessment. This is a relaxed, no-obligation session that usually lasts around 30 minutes but may take slightly longer depending on your current situation.

We will discuss any issues you may have with regards to sleep, the state of your insomnia or other sleep issues. This session alone always provides valuable learnings for you to implement and will give you clarity about what might be the underlying cause of your sleep struggles.
